ok, Magnetic Shaving Derby is done i think. (can you tell I have nothing better to do at the moment?)

The only emulator I've tested it on is no$gba under Windows.. I think DeSmuME might be the best emulator for OSX. Not sure. It's best on an actual DS though, of course.

I'm really happy with it. This is the first game I've come anywhere close to finishing (it's fully playable, though it's just a single level minigame). It's my first go at coding for a console, or coding properly in C++. It was stacks of fun and I learnt lots. Can't wait to start doing some....less gross...DS games.

I appear to suck at capturing video. I can't get anything to capture it! doh. Might try filming it on my DS with my camera later...


The object of the game is pretty obvious.

Oh, and watch out for THE PIMPLE. Popping it temporarily reverses the polarity of your magnet...which makes it go somewhat out of control...but doubles the points you get for each hair cut.

My top score so far: 256 (which doesn't even qualify for top ranking!)

slightly updated it:

You can now hit Start to give up the current run, the high score for current session is kept track of, the title music sounds slightly better on DS speakers, and the beard regrowth score penalty is now on a sliding scale - because apparently someone scored in the thousands by being really bad at it! Hopefully the new scoring will balance it out a bit.

I'm not sure that Screaming Gnome Factory will be finished before the deadline unfortunately - I have a real deadline at work, and am currently running flat out & knackered

On the plus side I have an engine and game concept that might work out, even though it only has a tenuous connection to gnomes.

I've had a quick tinker with Camstudio and no$gba: how does this look?

Beyond that, this is a very impressive minigame - especially for a first effort. It reminds me of Molar Maul on the Spectrum

The physics of the magnet work nicely and there's lots of neat touches, such as the way the eyes follow the magnet and bulge when you nick something.

Here's a quick pic of Underwater Ostrich Annihilation:



It's kinda AMC flavoured without much in the way of gameplay at the moment. Giant underwater ostrich tanks trundle from right to left. You can shoot them, but if one gets to the far left it's game over (man). At the moment they can't fight back and there's no collision on your sub, so it's all a little pointless really. I'll have to see what I can get done with the rest of the weekend.
