It's finally done.

I'm sure most of you weren't aware, but I've been porting my game Decaying Orbit to NUON over the past helluva lot of time. It's finally complete.

To download it and give it a go, grab the zip here. If you've never burned a NUON homebrew before then have a look at the included README for some tips. Or see this page that Just Claws recently wrote a guide for burning NUON homebrews.

http://www.dragonshadow.com/-/downloads ... l-v1.0.zip

Here's some screenies to whet your appetite.

After you've had a chance to play it please visit this page and read what I have in mind for the future. Basically I'd like to turn this into as proper a game as I can - complete with full color disc artwork, instruction booklet, and packaging. Getting discs made is expensive so I need to know if anyone would be willing to buy an enhanced version of the game. Full details are on that page.

Ug. With the hoops I had to jump through to get it ported to NUON, the prospect of porting it yet again pratically makes my head explode :P

I might just try that... how many files before NUON.CD do you recommend? Is normal Nero (Burning Rom) good enough to do the CD with?

I use one big 30MB file (it's actually just the NUON SDK renamed). To make sure it is burned to the disc before the NUON.CD I renamed it so it comes first alphabetically. Also, I always drag it into the project before the NUON.CD. It's probably overkill, but I haven't taken the time to do experiments to know the magic formula.

I use Easy CD Creator, but I think Nero is good too. If it doesn't work the try the things suggested in the README and on the help page I linked above.

I've used both Nero and EasyCD without trouble. Some do seem to have more problems burning NUON discs than others, though - guess I've just been lucky :)

So it doesn't actually matter WHAT the file is, as long as it's before NUON.CD and you burn just under one single session. Okay... well will have to see if I can pull this off...

I'm burning this right now and will get back to you with my opinions.

My guess is that some drives have trouble reading the inner tracks of a disc. So writing a big bogus file pushes the NUON.CD file out a bit. <shrug>

OK.

First off - fantastic work. The game is fun and very polished - you've done a great job. I'll be sure to fill in the survey, I'd definitely buy a copy. :)

Now, the bad news. I've gotten it to crash twice. The second time I was trying to reproduce the crash, so don't worry too much. ;) Details: start game, level 1, fly to planet and land, pick replay, fly off screen, when you are placed back at the start fly to planet and land. Now the game crashes when it's displaying your score, mid way through the blend it draws the score stats on screen. First time it was in the first line of numbers, the second time in the third line of them. HTH

Seriously good work though!

Ouch, thanks for the debugging. I couldn't reproduce it the couple times I tried. Once I can pin it down I'll fix it.

When it crashes, does it display the register dump screens? If so could you snap some digital photos of the screen and send them to me. It alternates between two screens.

Or maybe it just hangs?

Scott

Yes it just hangs. More normal play hasn't been affected so far. :)
