In a thread earlier on somebody mentioned a PC game that was coded in Blitz.

Is that anything to do with Blitz Basic on the Amiga?

I'm keen to make a game of some sort, the last time I made a game was about 10 years ago in AMOS on the amiga - it was a slightly crap 2-player thrust-style shoot-each-other-up, nowhere near as good as Gravity Force 2, but it worked!

Anyhow, these days my coding skills don't go beyond flash actionscript.
Is Blitz still around? Is it still geared towards making games?

Or for many examples of Blitz creations checkout the Blitzshowcase - http://www.blitzshowcase.com

Yes. Blitz Basic for the PC is coded by the same guy who did the Ami version, Mark Sibly. Bloody good bloke too, and also a member of this ere forum.

For what its worth, there are two little examples of mine done in Blitz on here at the moment, take a look at the topics called:

Little Parallax Platformer thingy, and Little Shooter thingy

I was an Amos Professional coder.

I even wrote a commercial arcade adventure game with it called "John Freedom and the tower of the doom".

I don't think it sold many copies (it was a minor Italian publisher that never paid me any royalties and I think it eventually went bankrupcy or closed), but I've seen you can find it on Amiga ADF repositories online.

Sorry George, but as much as I like you, I must point out that if you want a legal registered copy of Blitz Basic, you must buy it online from http://www.blitzbasic.com and NOT http://www.blitzcoder.com. I have great respect for George and Krylar (who owns BlitzCoder), but morally feel I must point this out.

Anyone wants more info, please PM me. I'm not going to go through all the dirt here.

Jon.

The other coool thing about Blitz Basic is Idigicon who sell it, George Bray is the man at the helm so to speak and it's good to see him on these threads too.
If anyone ever gets a chance to visit Idigicon they are in for a treat. There a top bunch of people and make you feel well at home. I've been there on many occasions to visit George, after all he's one of my mates...

basically, if you fancy coding games, buy Blitz Basic, it rocks!

<Removed unfortunately worded but entirely valid complaint against Idigicon that some misconstrued as a personal attack.>

Heed the words of RageMatrix if you want to pick up a copy of Blitz.

Well, that explains the policy that the Idigicon / Blitz Research legal dispute is a taboo subject at BlitzCoder. Obviously an attempt to legitimise their selling of Blitz Basic (for which the developer, Blitz Research gets not a penny) by buying the only other prominent Blitz Basic website on the net. The fact that BlitzCoder is my favourite hang-out on the net is a constant source of moral conflict for me.

George, you're a nice and honest guy, but I think we both know what you were implying. A user comes on here, and asks about Blitz Basic (which they really liked from the Amiga days) and you direct them to BlitzCoder which, purely by coincidence happens to have a prominent advert for buying said software from Idigicon on the main page, instead of the offical website, which has a demo for download as well as buying a legal and updatable copy of said software and to which you made not one mention, although it would have been the logical place to have directed them.

For shame, George, for shame. <shakes head sadly>

If I have made an enemy of you for stating all this, I am truely sorry, but I am compelled to do what I feel is right and just....and the publisher getting fat on the profits of software to which they no longer have any moral right while the developer of the software gets nothing is just not on.

Sincerest apologies,

Rage_Matrix
