Heard of him?
You probably work in the games industry if you have. About 4 years ago amid the usual rush of CV's started appearing some very odd games design submissions. Drawn in felt tip and biro they came from someone called Dennis Greenidge and usually featured a picture of a character usual "in 3d".
Here's Kronoses, which seem to be time travelling washing machines with er.. noses
And this Zargoman with his zargotastic powers:
This is just the tip of the iceberg. At Climax alone we got around 10 different greenidge submissions and around the industry loads of my friends got similar mentalness through the post box.
My particular favourite was "Wolverstein in 3D" a cross between a Wolfman and a Frankenstein in 3D.
I actually phone him up once. He answered the phone with a really depressed "hello". I said "Is that Dennis Greenidge?" and he got very excited saying "oooooh yesss!". He was actually happy that someone had phoned him up and new his name
I said "we are looking to do original games here at Climax and you have been reccomended to us as someone who may have some expertise in this area. Could you send some sample work please?" He sent me Space Strawberry's in 3D.
Bit mean really but I was going to get him in for an interview as a designer and make him do feats of strength to prove his worth (run round the building 3 times, that sort of thing) so it could have been worse.
A few years ago someone made a film about Dennis called Greenidge Meantime. It was shown at a film festival but never got a TV broadcast but I'd found out about from searching the net.
A mate sent me a copy today.
It's crackers.
