Lumines and Zookeeper - together at last.

Mac Version
Win32 Version

I've wasted my time off from work this past week writing this in BlitzMax. I can't afford a PSP at the moment, so this is my attempt to copy a game I've never played or seen. I've probably got all the rules wrong, and I didn't do the weird blue block thing 'cos it looked complicated.

Cursor keys to move. A and S to rotate the block.

Sometimes it gets a bit confused with the blocks, but I can't be bothered to fix it. It sorts itself out on the next pass of the wiper anyway.

The Win32 version is also a bit jittery on its timing for the sound looping.

Al the tunes are hacked up loops from Reason 3.0 demo tunes. The graphics are pinched off that Flash Zookeeper. No original content guaranteed. ;)

Zoomines or Lookeeper? :)

That's so cool 8)

Level 18...

I keep cocking up and trying to play it like Tetris :? Damn brain wired to slot falling blocks into spaces.

Looks very nice too with the zoomy effects and the sublime way the backgrounds just fade between themselves.

Any idea if this would this compile under the linux BlitzMax?

I've been fiddling with the windows version only but I could give it a shot if you want.

It runs at 800x600. 60fps.

It's all a bit of an experiment as it's the first thing I've done in BlitzMax.

Should do. I wrote it on the mac and compiled it on the PC without any problems. PM me with your email address and I'll send the source over.

Yes, you want to do this, I could play it with sound then :)

Hmm, took a bit of messing about to get this compiled and running.

Running triple head here and it seems BlitzMax doesn't know what to do when you ask it to go 800x600 fullscreen, then again that might just be because I don't have an 800x600 modeline in xorg.conf. 'Graphics moe does not exist' or something similar.

So inside the attachment I've sent there's a fullscreen and a windowed one as fallback.

It runs on my machine but it's massively slow but that might just be because I'm using a shitty onboard graphics card with very beta drivers. :?

Hell Fuseball that's superb.

Pretty much spot on interpretation of Lumines which I can't get enough of and maybe why I found it a little easy. I quit at level 80 when I sensed it wasn't getting any harder....does it?

Oh and you really need to add "the weird blue block thing" as it makes a huge difference to the stratergy of playing it.

Great :D

That was great! :D

I'm totally crap at it, I still haven't had any Lumines experience yet due to it not coming out until Thursday here, but it looks like a lot of fun from this preview. Now if only there was a way to integrate Zookeeper's ability to switch two blocks, then it'd really be Zoomines. :)

Great :D

Thanks. The difficulty of it was tough to judge, as I have no idea how that progresses in the original. I should really have just ramped the drop speeds up a bit on the second pass through. Likewise with the blue block - I'm not sure exactly how it effects gameplay. I'm sure that when I finally get to play it properly (I have the US one on order) I'll want to stick those features in.

I thought about that. Might make a good 2-player option. One controls the dropping, one the re-arranging. ;)
