Well here's what i wrote him back:

"aw, hey, I should apologise too, I probably got a bit too down on the whole thing... I just had some bad experiences with remakes in the past and it's probably made me overly precious about the whole thing whereas I really shouldn't be. I appreciate that you're doing it because you like the game and you want to learn, and hey, the last thing I should be doing is to discourage anyone from learning }:-).

It's true that I am working on Space Giraffe which is my own evolution of the ideas in T2K, but I'm moving away from it being just "pure Tempest" and introducing some stuff which I think gives it its own identity without remaining too closely bound to its history, so I don't think there's any conflict in what we're each doing.

I really don't want you to have to shut down your work since it seems that you;re doing well and impressing a lot of people and that's really good going for such a short period of development!

So if you want to, do go ahead with my blessing and if I can help in some way let me know, I'd be happy to do a bit of play testing if time allows :).

Cheers, and sorry for sounding like such a grump on the YakYak board, I didn't mean to imply that you should stop or that I was upset at you, it was just me being a bit too sensitive I think :)."

It would be nice if he continued development - this was looking great, and although not quite "there" as regards Jeff's remakes of the game, was still very promising.

And yes, before anyone gets upset: I consider T2k et al "remakes" of the original arcade. I love them, just as I love his remakes of Defender and Robotron. Being fantastic games in their own right, the added "minterism" was just heavenly.

I don't take the term "remake" to be an insult, and I don't use it as such.
